Since everyone seems to be cluttering our threads with anime, I thought it would be appropriate to have our very own thread to have such discussions! To start us off...
What's the first anime you've watched/manga you've read?

I can't really remember the first anime I watched, since I was really young, I think it was either Pokemon or digimon, but I don't remember much of either and I didn't really know the term "anime", I just thought of it as cartoons. Then in 2013, when I was 13, my sister introduced me to Death Note, and since then I've been hooked! My first manga was based on the only Shoujo I've watched completely, ToraDora.

First manga I read, Death Note.
First anime Dragonball. The likes of Digimon, Beyblade, Yugioh etc came after. I guess Pokemon has been there for as long as I can consciously remember, but I only really remember it round the time Dball was introduced on Toonami, which was when I was like 5 in 1999. So I say anime wise Dball & Pokemon for me.

Love my Sailor Moon people! haha Mine was Pokemon first and Sailor Moon to follow shortly after. I BELIEVE my first manga was Fruits Basket. I got into anime ever since. Played the Pokemon card game, had the board game, which is worth lots of money now I pretended to be a sailor scout when I was little lol ummm I had a talking stuffed Pikachu for the longest time that I LOVED but have no idea where he is now

I also had a lot of sailor moon and DBZ when I was a kid, I think my first doodles was sailor moon girls but I don't remember anymore.
An anime that I can remember really far far back in my childhood though is "Tom and Jerry"...Some TV channel was launching the series almost every night and we used to all burst in laughter all the time, children and adults no exception.
My first manga was Fruit Basket too, I wanted to see the rest of the story...but the ending was so rushed that I ended up a bit disappointed

Yeah I totally agree with you Nomena. The story was awesome but it felt like it dropped off a little at the end unfortunately, since I honestly did like the story The anime's that I am currently watching are: Hunter x Hunter, Kamisama Kiss, and a drama based off of the anime/manga "Mischievous Kiss."

I slowed down on watching anime recently because there is not many of them that grabs my attention anymore so I kind of stopped watching most of them after 3 episode... I watched and read so many shojo that I got sick of it ... After seeing many of them as well, I came to the conclusion that in general I hate harems (too many stupid girls for my liking) and reversed harems (too many handsome boys making me jealous of the heroin) ... so I am drifting a toward shonen ai now, I totally love No. 6 and Kyo Kara Maoh I watched the first episode of Akane ga kill and ran away my tail between my leg...I watched the first 18 episode of "Psycho Pass" and got emotionally attached to the main villain Shogo Makishima (I think he has too much presence than the so called MC, Akane), so I stopped watching too. Beside that I love most of Hayao Miazaki's animations that I saw: Howl's moving castle (especially this one), Spirited away, Kiki, Ponyo, Ariety, Porco roso ... Though the anime that I am eagerly waiting for new episode to come every week is ONE PIECE and the manga that I am eagerly waiting for new update is "BLOOD LAD" which also has a anime by the way.

Eh, I've seen a lot of episodes of One Piece and I can't say I really like it. I think the story is too all over the place for me. I am also waiting on Naruto's fillers to stop I've mentioned on here a couple of times that I LOVE the anime/manga NANA if you've ever seen or heard of it? I think the art style is really unique and it's praised quite a bit for that reason. But much like Hunter x Hunter, the author took a break (it's been several years though so i'm not even sure if it's coming back unfortunately)

Yeah, I heard about Nana, it's really popular, but I am not about to see any shojo stuff for a while...I used to watch Kimi ni todoke and Suki te li na yo countless time...maybe it's just a cycle I must go through...I don't want to start hating nice stories because I am just tired of watching the genre...so I am taking a break from watching them.
The thing with One piece is that it's already really long...I did not like it so much at the beginning, but I just thought it was getting more and more interesting, I like it the most from Season 12 onward (Episode 408)...and also take breaks from watching, as soon as I am tired. I am mainly just following Luffy's actions in fact, when I find the episode not really relevant for him or when it's just boring talking about strategies and other stuff, I just read the summary on wikipedia and move on, I have been skipping many episodes (LOL)
In fact my favourite before it was Naruto but as above, I was only mainly following Naruto's actions, and use wikipedia to update about summary, but that last chapter ending for when they are adults made it a little bitter for me to digest, so I totally dropped it, but then again it's my personal opinion so it doesn't count as much as fan service.

I tend to shy away from extremely long series unless the plot is extremely good ^^

That's why I like Naruto OP. And Hunter x Hunter, as that is honestly my second longest anime. I feel you when you said you don't really like a long series, I never really did either. Too much time to invest in one anime and some times the story can get lost and you've wasted all that time. With Naruto, I think my favorite thing I like about it is it really gives you a sense that you grew up right next to him. You've watched him be the underdog that you've been rooting for the entire time, and he blossoms in to this strong character but also fought really hard to get to where he is now. Anything he goes through he feels like you're closest friend so in a way you feel his happiness, his pain, his anger etc. I think that's so awesome to be able to do for a viewer. As for Hunter X Hunter, I'm going to be honest, I've never really felt much as of yet. When someone dies i'm just thinking "okay.." BUT the characters in the anime are strong STAND ALONE characters, whereas in Naruto there's your three main characters with good background characters. In Hunter x Hunter they could make a story arc about anyone and you'd be just as interested as if it were the main character. I also think that is a hard thing to do in an anime. Just my opinion between the two as they are my only long running animes. ALSO, I am watching the new improved Sailor Moon Crystal. I miss the beginning theme song "NEVER RUNNING FROM A REAL FIGHT, SHE IS THE ONE NAMED SAILOR MOON!" yeah, they don't have that anymore T.T But I do appreciate the new quality And as always, I want to find my own Luna. Meow.

Wooaaww, yeah, it's really time consuming...my brothers and I used to watch 25 episodes of Naruto in one night, we barely got sleeping time and our mother was often angry...but also we had difficulties to come back to earth/reality after because we were so engrossed in the story (LOL) ...
When I am also watching a series that I am hooked in, I can spend a whole Saturday and Sunday in front of my computer watching it and barely eating/ barely sleeping, I feel like sometimes my eyes would pop out of their orbits...and then I still have difficulty to come back to reality...it's in fact a good thing for me that there is not much anime I like anymore and that I managed to catch up on the series I like.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a must-watch. I prefer Brotherhood as it sticks to the original story.

I watched Fullmetal Alchemist, I guess it's good but just not my taste, sometimes too much sadness and despair...I gladly exchange it with Bleach By the way, I still can't access the boards so I still have no idea about what is going on here

I've already sent the message to add you, so if you still can't see the private topics, then that means Ryuu is busy at the time. Perhaps give it a few days before you have access to it.

Haha, FMA was awesome! I preferred it to the other really popular ones like DBZ, Bleach and one piece.
If I remember correctly, I started watching studio Ghibli films when I was reallllly young. Then, my first 'anime' (TV series type) was Rosario Vampire XD It's funny because a few years later my first manga was also Rosario Vampire :3 It probably has influenced my art style more than most.

First anime is hard to say. Pokemon, YuGiOh, DragonBall Z were all around the same time. First manga was definitely Naruto...ah good times. It's funny how I learned more about anime/manga with Naruto. First, I watched Naruto on Toonami, then I looked it up on the Internet and found the Japanese episodes were ahead so I was like "Woah, there are more episodes!!" and then I found the manga online and was like "Woah, there's even more!!!" It's like each time I was discovering gold haha.
